Oakleigh Digital Camera Central

About Us

Oakleigh Digital Camera is a stand alone store, situated on the corners of Portman and Hanover Streets in Oakleigh, Victoria Australia.
We have ample carparking, with 2 carparks directly across the road.

This is a family business operated by myself, Anthony Burns, and assisted by my wife Nicki.

I was interested in photography from an early age.   I owned my first SLR when I was 11, which I taught myself to use.  I did the normal school based studies including several TAFE courses but soon found that I learnt more through hands-on experience.  I spent 3 very beneficial years (without pay), "carrying" a professionals' camera bag around and learnt more during this time with constant one on one tutorials, than I learnt in any of the courses I studied.  This experience led me to starting my own studio and wedding photography, in addition to my other full time employment.  In early 1999, I got a job at my local camera shop in Frankston, which I managing until 2006.   My passion for photography soon turned to sales, where I can teach, share my knowledge and most importantly help customers make an educated and informed decision.

I am passionate about service.  There are too many stores (box movers) sending customers home with the wrong product.  Service is not only about serving the customer, its about giving your all.  Providing the correct information and sharing knowledge.  Obviously there is alot of information on the internet, but how does the information apply?  Every customer has their own individual needs.  If there was one camera to suit everyone there wouldn't be hundreds of varieties on the market.

I strongly encourage everyone reading this to come into the store where possible, rather than buying online.  You may ask, then why have online purchasing avaliable?  The short answer is why not.  Apart from providing information on new services and products - online purchasing provides me with another way of assisting customers needs.  Many of my loyal customers that I have been looking after for numerous years, have followed me from my previous employment and come from various regions of Victoria, and even from interstate.  Online purchasing allows me greater flexibility to assist those with busy lives and helps "narrow the distance".
